6 Applicant Qualities That Recruiters Dream Of

Human resource recruitment managers and personnel have both the most interesting and most challenging jobs.

On one side, they get to come across a whole spectrum of people and learn a lot from these encounters. And on the other, headhunting for the person most fit for the job can be a headache-inducing experience.

But there are just six qualities that applicants have that make every hiring and recruitment manager salivates over. Because of this six qualities, their jobs are a whole lot easier.

So if you’re applying for a job right now, make sure to check these qualities off your list to increase your chances for finding a job that best fits you:

Make sure you’re available online and easy to find. The worst thing for HR recruiters is the ordeal of having to find the applicant by having a comprehensive online profile. And when I say comprehensive, I mean an updated LinkedIn profile, a polished and complete resume, social media activities, and an email that’s actually actively used by the applicant. Don’t make the recruiter feel like he’s looking for breadcrumbs when he does an initial background check. Your online profile shouldn’t be hard to find and should be found in the right places.

Properly comply with the application process. Headhunters just hate incomplete or improper applications. It’s just a waste of time, effort and opportunity. And the lost opportunity of matching the right person with the right job is the worst. You’ll never know what could have been with that application since the hiring manager could no longer proceed with the application because of missing information or missed application steps. Not all recruiters have the time to get back to you just to confirm a missing detail or inadvertently omitted data. They would just be more than happy to move on to the next applicant.

Respond with promptness. Nothing says you’re uninterested in a job opportunity more than a call or email returned a day or two late. Remember, you are not the only option, so you don’t have the luxury of time or options to be irresponsible by being unresponsive. Job applications are the ultimate test of character, and you are expected to put your best put forward. So imagine failing at that initial stage. Don’t even get your hopes up after that!

Make courteous and proper introductions. None of that messaging via social media platforms, please! Okay, maybe some companies don’t frown upon that practice. But let’s be clear, the best way to introduce yourself isn’t by sliding into someone’s Instagram DM or replying to their tweet. Send a polite-sounding email. It will only take a few minutes more than sending a Facebook message or commenting on their posts, but believe me, the difference is world’s apart!

Avoid any fraud or misrepresentation. Word to the wise: don’t ever lie on your resume or job application. It’s the worst thing you can do. And what good would it do to you anyway? If you lie on your resume and admit it during the job interview, you won’t get the job anyway. And if you do decide to keep your lie even after the interview, what happens if you do get hired? You don’t have the true credentials and experience to back your resume up, so everything is set to go downhill from there anyway. If I were the recruiter, I’d be most wary of dishonest applicants; just imagine what else they could do after they’ve lied about what they have done.

Have a grateful attitude. Saying thank you goes a very long way. Whatever happens during the recruitment process, have the heart to say thank you to the recruitment officer. You’ll never know how you’ve made someone’s day by being nice to someone. Recruitment managers interact with dozens of applicants a day, so you’ll definitely stand out just by saying a genuine well-meant thank you.

Strive to have these six simple qualities and you’ll make the recruitment process truly enjoyable for both you and the HR personnel who’s been searching for months trying to find the perfect candidate. Let that candidate be you!
